Yes, I realize that’s a bit of an odd name for a blog; especially one written by a man. I guess what you need to know is that I work at a company called Bagolitas by Janice, Bagolitas for short. We produce and sell women’s fabric handbags and other accessories from a small production facility and distribution warehouse in North Liberty, Iowa. I’ll tell you more later about how I arrived here (it will take more than a few days’ blog entries for that story), but for now you should know that among our 225+ employees, seamstresses and independent sales consultants, I am one of three males.
Alright, so half of you out there (men and women both) right now are saying, “Wow!! How cool is that?” and the other half are saying “Wow!! I could never do that.” On any given day, make that any given hour, you’re both right J And that, my friends, is why I’m here writing in this blog. There’s never a dull moment at the Bagolitas Studio (that’s what we call our corporate offices). I don’t think I’m the only male in the world in this exact position (after all, there are 3 of us here – I wonder if Patrick and Robert have blogs?), but I do think I’m one of very few.
My hope and desire is to provide you with just a little perspective, a little insight and perhaps a little good natured humor about what it’s like to “work in a woman’s world”. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I have and I welcome your comments along the way. Please don’t take offense if I say something and it comes off wrong. The most important thing you should know right now is that I love going to work every day and I wouldn’t trade my position with anyone.
